Witnesses Sought Following Public Order Incident In Trinity Street, Dorchester

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a reported public order incident in Dorchester.

The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on Thursday 16 January 2025 in Trinity Street involving the driver of a Mercedes and a male pedestrian.

It is reported that the pedestrian told the driver of the car to slow down as it is believed the driver was accelerating as the victim was crossing the road with children.

The suspect then reportedly shouted repeated racial abuse at the victim.

A 41-year-old man from East Dorset was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Police Sergeant Mia Jakeman, of Dorset Police, said: “This incident happened in a busy area and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

“In addition, I would like to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“I understand a number of members of the public intervened at the time and I would like to thank them for their assistance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250007461. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
