A man is due to appear in court in connection with a fatal road traffic collision near Sherborne.

The incident occurred on the A30 between Sherborne and Yeovil at around 4.50pm on Thursday 1 December 2022. The collision involved three cars – a silver Ford Zetec, a blue VW Passat and a silver Vauxhall Astra.

Very sadly, 30-year-old Charlotte Avis, from Milborne Port, died at the scene.

A young child from Milborne Port was also taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

As part of the investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Team, a 55-year-old man from Yeovil was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and he was subsequently released without charge.

Following further detailed enquiries, a 40-year-old man from Yeovil has now been issued with a postal requisition to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 April 2024 for offences of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
