A group of 14-year-old students from Bournemouth calling themselves Team Dragon will be organising a talent competition for young participants aged 8 to 21 to raise funds in support of the Downs Syndrome Association.

The talent show is part of Shoreideas, a project funded £10,000 by Bournemouth Borough Council, which enables young people to develop employment and entrepreneurial skills whilst seeking to raise funds for a young person’s charity of their choice.

Bournemouth Borough Council launched the scheme in partnership with 2026, the Bournemouth YMCA, as well as a range of other partners in the town.

Team Dragon, which is made up of Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girl students, have successfully secured the use of the Pavilion Theatre for their final show to be heldon Sunday 4 Maywith an impressive list of other sponsor input.

They have also secured sponsorship from Ridgeway in Bournemouth and Hallmark Hotels have agreed to host the auditionson April 3rd, 4thand 5th.Finally local entertainer and CBeebies star Chris Jarvis will be hosting the final show.

Councillor Nicola Greene, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said:

“Initiatives like this are a great way to teach young people about how to run a business as well as enabling them to gain some great skills they can use when they enter the jobs market. What’s fantastic about this project is that it also encourages them to support a good cause, so that others also benefit from it. I wish Team Dragon a very successful Talent Show and hope they raise lots of money for the Downs Syndrome Association.”

Bournemouth Councillor and YMCA CEO Blair Crawford, who has acted as the team’s mentor, said:

“It has been an absolute privilege to work with Team Dragon and to help them realise their dream while supporting such a worthwhile cause as the Downs Syndrome Association. It has been hard work and a lot of valuable lessons have been learned but I am sure that the grand final will give us all a night to remember.”

Team Dragon are now encouraging talented young people to enter their competition.

Singers, Bands, Dancers, Comedians, Magicians and in fact any young people with performing talent are being encouraged to enter.  Each participant is encouraged to apply on line through the Shoreideas website at www.shoreideas.co.uk
