Black Friday is the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season, on which retailers make many special offers. It claims to be a day of offers for consumers to launch in to their Christmas shopping.

However, according to Which magazine this is, for want of a better word, a con.

As can be seen from the Which investigation and analysis Black Friday is not what it seems.

‘Every product in our investigation was available for the same price or cheaper after Black Friday at most major retailers – so there’s no need to hurry.

A minuscule 1% of the items we looked at in the six months before and after Black Friday 2019 were at their cheapest price on Black Friday itself. The vast majority of products in the Black Friday 2019 sales had been the same price or cheaper on at least one occasion in the six months before or after the sale, including 85% that were the same price or less before the day.’
