Are nuclear weapons legal or illegal under international law? Local author and long time activist, Geoffrey Darnton, addresses this question in his book Nuclear Weapons and International Law.

The book is released to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Nuremberg Principles, a set of guidelines for determining what constitutes a war crime. As part of the UN, the US signed up to these principles prior to dropping  ‘fat man’ on Nagasawki which lead to death and injury of over 60,000 people.

With the impending debate on the renewal of Trident, this book is an invaluable source to the law relating to nuclear weapons.

On Saturday 15th August, Geoffrey will be giving a presentation about his book followed by a question and answer session. This is an open meeting and all are welcome to join us at the East Cliff United Reformed Church, Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth BH8 8AW.
