Bournemouth Town Centre BID has been awarded the ‘Best Event’ of the Year at the Association of Town and City Management Awards Ceremony for its work with Metropole Market.

Bournemouth Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) has received the ‘Best Event’ of the Year Award at the Town and City Management Awards. The BID’s work in support of the acclaimed Metropole Street Market was recognised by the national organisation ATCM (Association of Town and City Management) at their annual summer school’s Industry Awards Dinner in Hull. The Coastal BID were also shortlisted for Best Digital High Street Scheme for their #LoveBournemouthBunnies campaign.

Metropole Street Market is a BID funded event, launched in September 2017. The increasingly popular community event drew over 40,000 visitors to Holdenhurst Road last year for its first four markets. Metropole was created to boost the local economy, increase footfall in Lansdowne and give Bournemouth residents and visitors a fun day out for the whole family. Following the success of last year’s events, Bournemouth Town Centre BID has funded more markets in 2018, the next taking place on Sunday 29th July

The national ATCM awards have been shaped to showcase the best practice on key issues for BIDs across the UK and Ireland. The aim of the awards is to identify and promote successful projects that local and national government should be aware of. The Best Event Award recognises one-off or annual events which weightily contributed to the local economy.

Paul Kinvig, Chief Operating Officer at Town Centre BID, comments:

“We are honoured to have been awarded the national ATCM Award for the ‘Best Event’ of the Year. Metropole Street Market is a much-loved event for the whole of Bournemouth which helps the local economy, promotes local businesses and offers a fun day out for residents and visitors alike. I would like to pay tribute to Lyn Turnbull and Mark Cater, organisers of the market, for their incredible commitment and sterling work on this event.”
