Officers are issuing a CCTV image of someone they would like to speak to in connection with a distraction theft at a supermarket in Wimborne.

At around 12.40pm on Monday 24 February 2020 a woman – aged in her 70s – unloaded her shopping into her car in the underground car park at Waitrose on Rowlands Hill. As she went to return the trolley, she was approached by a man asking for directions to Bournemouth station.

When the victim returned home, she discovered that her bank cards had been stolen.

Police Community Support Investigator Cheryl Belfield, of East Dorset police, said: “Thankfully, the victim cancelled her bank cards before any fraudulent transactions could occur.

“Following enquiries I have obtained a CCTV image of a man I would like to speak to. I would ask anyone with information as to his identity to please get in touch.

“I am also keen to remind residents to be vigilant and lock their vehicles, even if they are left unattended for a very short period of time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55200029088. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
