Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Christchurch are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 2.40pm on Monday 26 September 2022 of a collision involving a grey Citroen Berlingo and a parked vehicle in Cowleys Road.

Officers attended and it was reported that the male driver of the Citroen was in need of medical attention. The ambulance service also attended and road closures were put in place.

Very sadly, the driver of the Citroen – a man from Christchurch aged in his 60s – was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

Police Sergeant Richard Stroud, of the traffic unit, said: “From our initial enquiries we believe it is possible the driver may have suffered a medical episode. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure was in place. This was absolutely necessary to allow us to carry out a thorough examination of the scene.”
