There is a chance to see behind the scenes of your local hospital next month when Dorset County Hospital throws open its doors for a public open day.

The special event is being held on Saturday, 21 September 2013 from 2pm to 4pm.

A range of departments throughout the hospital will be open for tours and the on-site Education Centre will host a wide selection of displays and hands-on activities manned by hospital staff.

There will also be the chance for free health checks and the recruitment team will be on hand to give information about job opportunities at the hospital. Hospital governors will also be attending to tell people more about becoming a member of Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Departments open on the day include the Clinical Simulation Suite, Special Care Dentistry, pathology laboratories, pharmacy, mortuary, radiology, chapel, library, renal unit, cancer ward, gynaecology outpatients, kitchens, Ridgeway Radio studio and the Friends of DCH shop.

Information stands and talks in the Education Centre will feature subjects including infection control, bowel cancer screening, research, nutrition, organ donation, patient feedback, volunteers and safeguarding of patient safety.

Hospital Chief Executive Jean O’Callaghan said: “This is a chance for us to showcase the wonderful work that goes on at the hospital, often behind the scenes. Visitors can be sure of gaining a fascinating insight into the many different departments and services within the hospital.

“Staff have put a lot of work into organising this afternoon and I hope as many people as possible will make the most of this opportunity to find out more about how their local hospital operates.”

Tours and displays will run from the hospital’s Education Centre which can be found in East Wing, via Entrance 1, between 2pm and 4pm. For more information please call 01305 255419 or 254683, or email [email protected]
