Managed by Encore Care Homes, Great Oaks’ home administrator, Sarah Sims, has taken part in the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Great Oaks, the residential, nursing and dementia care home in Bournemouth, held a coffee morning to help raise funds for Sarah’s 22-mile trek along the Jurassic Coast. The home’s catering team took the time to prepare homemade cakes and biscuits for staff and residents as well as their friends and family to purchase, with all the funds going to Macmillan Cancer Support. Following the success of the coffee morning it raised a total of £160 for the charity.
Sarah then went on to raise a further £540, making a grand total of £700 through generous donations in support of her challenge, which she successfully completed in less than 14 hours.
Sarah Sims, home administrator of Great Oaks, said: “The Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike was the hardest thing I have ever done but I couldn’t have achieved it without the support of my team. I felt such a sense of achievement once I crossed the finish line, especially since around 300 people had to drop out along the way due to the gruelling heat.
“I am so grateful for all of those who sponsored me and donated funds at our coffee morning held at Great Oaks. I was pleased to be able to take part in the challenge with my friends for a great cause, and it felt amazing to have my team at Encore backing me as well.”
