A business networking breakfast, held at the end of January, focusing on ‘Making Businesses Greener’, pulled in a large number of businesses and created significant interest.

The breakfast, organised by business marketing specialists Marketing West and the Bridport Chamber of Commerce, invited two leading experts to give advice on what businesses could do to save waste. Leading author Julia Hailes MBE talked about the issues we all face, while environment designer Connor Bryant explained how businesses can reduce waste.

Said Nigel Reeve of Marketing West: They helped dispel a number of myths, making us think more about what we are doing. For example, using paper bags instead of plastic seems to be a great idea, but the weight of the paper is six times more than plastic, which means heavier lorries to transport it. On the surface, it’s a good idea but the extra weight could be more of a threat to the environment than the plastic. We need to change our entire thinking with a clearer overview rather than just move the problem around.”

The networking breakfasts are held monthly at Groves Ivy House in Bridport. More information is available on the Marketing West website www.marketingwest.co.uk
