An exclusive poll conducted for the Byline Supplement reveals that a significant portion of the British population believes that Britain’s prime days are now in the past. This sentiment is strongly linked to the perception that “nothing in Britain really works anymore” under the leadership of the Conservative Government led by Rishi Sunak.

The poll, conducted by We Think pollsters, highlights that 52% of voters share the view that “Britain’s best days are behind it.” Furthermore, 58% of respondents concur that “nothing in Britain really works anymore,” while only 13% hold an opposing perspective.

This pervasive dissatisfaction with the country’s current state extends to the Conservative Government’s management of public services over the past 13 years. A substantial 61% of voters believe that public services have deteriorated under Conservative rule, with a mere 7% asserting improvement. Specifically, 67% of respondents perceive a decline in the National Health Service (NHS), and 54% feel that the quality of education in schools has worsened.

Additionally, the poll challenges Rishi Sunak’s claim of crime reduction, as 49% of respondents believe that crime has actually increased, while only 8% think it has decreased. It’s worth noting that the government’s crime statistics exclude fraud and online crimes, which may explain this divergence in perception.

Public faith in the government’s economic management also remains low, with 53% of respondents asserting that the UK’s economic performance is worse than that of comparable nations. In contrast, only 9% believe claims that Britain outperforms similar countries economically.

This overall dissatisfaction with the government appears to have adversely affected the public’s opinion of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The poll indicates that 48% of voters have a less favorable impression of him since he assumed office, compared to just 10% whose opinion has improved. Even among Conservative voters, a significant 18% report a deteriorating view of the Prime Minister since his tenure began.

Moreover, a majority of voters express concerns about increasing corruption within the UK Government in recent years, as revealed in the article above.
