Bournemouth Tourism’s highly successful Festival Makers scheme is back and looking for more volunteers.

Inspired by the success of the 2012 Olympics Game Makers scheme, a team of enthusiastic and passionate volunteers were recruited earlier this year as part of the Wheels Festival with great success and positive feedback.

Now continuing its partnership with Bournemouth University, Bournemouth Tourism and the National Coastal Tourism Academy is keen to widen its scheme to offer more people the chance to be part of the action for its other major free events.

The Festival Makers scheme is looking for local people who are:

·        Proud of and passionate about the town

·        Love helping people and have great people skills

·        Are strong team players

They will undertake a variety of roles to inform and guide residents, visitors and participants to ensure they get the most out of their visit to Bournemouth and the events.

Jon Weaver, Head of Events at Bournemouth Tourism, said: “Festival Makers will experience the town’s fantastic free festivals close up by becoming volunteers – the award-winning Bournemouth Air Festival and the thrilling Bournemouth Wheels Festival.

“Volunteers will be at the centre of the action and excitement, working behind the scenes to help put on one of Bournemouth’s brilliant major events. It will not only be an amazing experience and a proud moment for them representing their town but they will also have a good story to tell about how they were there and involved.”

Festival Makers will be led by a Bournemouth University’s Festival Makers supporter, Dr Debbie Sadd and will receive full training including specific festival information, information on Bournemouth as a holiday resort and customer service training.

Michelle, who was a Festival Maker volunteer for the Wheels event, said of her experience: Being a Festival Maker is a fun and exciting experience to suit all ages. It’s a great way to meet new people, make friends and promote Bournemouth. We were well supported by the organisers and even got up close to the action. I can’t wait for the next event as I loved every minute.

The scheme has been supported by the Coastal Business Improvement District, the Town Centre Business Improvement District and Bournemouth University.

Anyone interested in being part of this fantastic new Festival Makers scheme can apply online at https://www.bournemouth.co.uk/business/festival-makers . Applicants must be aged 18 or over and people are asked to volunteer for a minimum of seven hours.
