Community groups have been handed a share of funding fromWeymouth & Portland Borough Council to help support projects across the borough.

The ‘Working with You’ Community Grant Fund saw 23 successful applications with a total £16,397.44 being allocated between them.

The grants will support a range of projects including establishing a new rainbows unit in Underhill, developing a new fitness project for families in Westham, supporting an intergenerational project in Littlemoor and to support four community lunches.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council allocated £15,000 towards the project, with the Weymouth & Portland Partnership providing a further £15,000.

The Weymouth and Portland Partnership includes representatives from a wide range of organisations and community and voluntary groups, including Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.

The ‘Working with You’ principles are:

  • To improve the quality of life in all communities concentrating initially on areas of multiple deprivation
  • To deliver positive action
  • To place communities at the heart of partnership working practices
  • To encourage collaborative working at all levels and to achieve more through co-ordinated action

Cllr Colin Huckle, Brief Holder for Social Inclusion at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, said: “It is wonderful that the borough council and Weymouth & Portland Partnership have been able to assist these community groups with funding.

“This is an important project for the borough and will help to improve the quality of life of residents in the area.”
