Green fingered residents who joined Bournemouth’s green waste waiting list in 2013 will receive a letter in the coming weeks with details about the scheme and information on when they can expect their bin.
Last year 4182.6 tonnes of green waste was disposed of with the average household on the scheme recycling 173.2kg of green waste, meaning the borough is disposing of even less waste in the rubbish bin with garden waste instead going for composting.
Now there are hopes for even greater results in 2014 as the Council has agreed all 1,600 people who were on the waiting list for a collection service will now join the scheme this Spring. It means 30,600 households in the town will receive green waste collections.
Councillor Michael Filer, portfolio holder for Cleansing & Waste, said: “I am delighted to see so many residents of Bournemouth are keen gardeners and want to do the right thing when disposing of all their green waste. It is pleasing to be able to offer everyone on our waiting list the chance to join our green waste scheme as together we can recycle more and waste less. It means officially we are diverting 81 per cent of all Bournemouth’s waste from landfill with all indications showing that these figures are expected to improve even more this year.”
Collections for 2014 will run fortnightly fromApril 7to the end of November.
If you have not previously registered and would like to opt-in for green waste collections, you can be added to the 2015 waiting list by contacting the Council via email on [email protected] or telephone the Customer Contact Centre on 01202 451199. In the meantime residents can still take advantage of discounted home composters via www.bournemouth.getcomposting.com or take their green waste to Millhams Community Recycling Centre or Wilverley Road Household Recycling Centre in Christchurch.
