Go Wild about Brownsea!

Dorset Wildlife Trust’s much loved ‘Wild About’ event is coming to Brownsea Island this summer. There will be two action-packed days with activities for all the family to enjoy.

This free wildlife road show is an opportunity to learn and discover what the island has to offer. This is a joint venture with The National Trust as a part of the 50 year anniversary celebrations looking back on all the hard work that has been done to make Brownsea Island the wonderful place it is today.

Get involved and take in island life with face painting, puppets, walks, wildlife and much more to enjoy. With summer in full swing, Brownsea will be alive with all creatures great and small for all those who are nutty about nature. Wildlife walks will occur throughout the weekend – see how many red squirrels you can spot and explore the bird hides catching glimpses of such birds as nesting gulls and terns.

Chris Thain, Reserve Manager at the Dorset Wildlife Trust nature reserve on Brownsea Island, said: “The aim of this event is to show-case how rich Poole Harbour is and the essential role that Brownsea Island has to play for wildlife”.

Claire Dixon, Visitor Services and Enterprises Manager for the National Trust, said: “The National Trust is really excited to support what is going to be a fantastic part of our 50 years outdoor festival.  The event will reveal the many plants and animals that have made Brownsea their home so come along and see how many you can spot and find out more about how we work together to look after them”.

‘Wild about Brownsea’ is on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th June from 10am to 5pm. The event is free although usual admission prices apply to land on Brownsea Island. Boats go from Poole and Sandbanks, for details check out The National Trust Website.
