So, the landlord of the building where I work (not my boss) came in to work and said he saw me on TV (in relation to the Save the Welsh Independent Living Grant – WILG campaign) and said “You’re not one of them Corbyn supporters are you? The ones that have been radicalised?”. He also then went on to explain to me, and this is from a Scouser & LFC fan, how brilliant Margaret Thatcher was, and how she saved the country. He also was incredibly patronising, saying “I lived through it, you lot don’t know what you are talking about!”….

……20 minutes later, after dissecting what he claimed to the nth degree, proving to him (it was not an assumption, based purely on what we both said) I demonstrated that actually HE has no idea what he is talking about and that it was great for people like him, just not the vast majority of the country. I then schooled him on everything Thatcher-the child abuse cover-ups, the IRA negotiating she lied about, the stopping starving children getting food via the London Met being sent to strikes, that for half her term we were in negative growth with two major recessions pay gaps increased, inequality & poverty increased, very conscious underfunding of public services, record unemployment, the mass decline of our manufacturing industries, the start of the house price boom (thanks Maggie-now not as many can afford a home), interest rates shot up to record highs, the ‘killing’ of the Unions, how The Falklands ‘saved’ her, her role with Pinochet (to name but a few), her conscious killing of communities with no solutions etc etc etc.

I managed to laugh with him and shake his hand at the end, but I suspect he will never make the same mistake again re defending Thatcher and decrying Corbyn in front of me! Of course, as I said to him, his opinion is no more or less valid than mine, but don’t start telling me lies about Thatcher (in her favour) & Corbyn (to his detriment)!!! Job. Done.
