A memorial to those who died in Bournemouth during the bombing raid on May 23, 1943 will be unveiled at about 12.30 on May 23 2013 at the Lansdown, Bournemouth. Put the word out!
At around 1300, the RAF Memorial Flight will fly over the memorial, at the same time as the raid took place 70 years ago.
70 years ago,131 people, mostly civilians, were killed in a raid by 22 German bombers on the Metropole Hotel in Bournemouth. 50 or so of the servicemen killed were Canadian soldiers, and many of their families will attend, as will the Royal British Legion.
Bournemouth Borough Council has not announced details of the unveiling, and none of the 81 families of locals killed have been informed of the event or the memorial. It is important that those families know so they will be at the unveiling and can remember their loved ones appropriately.
