He had brought all his toughness into trying to overcome a brain tumour but things finally got the better of him, something which all those who knew him will realise didn’t happen very often. He was only 65.
I have been chatting with his son, George, and wife, Lynn, who gave their permission for this post which they hope will alert all who knew him in the Weymouth area because they say they have so many happy memories of their times down here.
You’d need a shelf of books to record even a fraction of the incidents Paul was involved with because he was larger than life and always seemed to be involved with some activity.
I have already promised to tell George and Lynn about the infamous “breakdancing” incident some time, but there are scores of other anecdotes. Everyone who knew Paul will have their own unique memories of the man.
He must be so annoyed to have missed the climax of the World Cup because he loved his football and cricket. They’ll probably rename Gigg Lane after him!
No funeral date has been arranged yet but I’ll post something as soon as I know anything.
I’m sure everyone will wish Lynn and George well at this difficult time and I also post this Echo staff picture with Paul in it (back, right) as a blast from the past.
