NATIONAL AWARD FOR HEALTHWATCH DORSET

Local consumer champions Healthwatch Dorset have come runner up at the Healthwatch England national conference for the value they bring to diversity and inclusion through their community investment projects.

Shortlisted from over 120 entries, Healthwatch Dorset has been recognised for its work in engaging and involving people from different backgrounds, seldom heard groups and those who experience accessibility issues.

Jane Mordue, Interim Chair of Healthwatch England, said: “Congratulations to Healthwatch Dorset for their highly commended entry. Their submission really demonstrated the impact local Healthwatch can have in their communities, and it was a pleasure to celebrate the network and the great work it has done over the past year.”

Chair Joyce Guest and manager Martyn Webster were on hand at the Healthwatch England awards dinner to receive the certificate. Joyce Guest told us: “We’re delighted and proud to have our work recognised nationally. This award is a celebration of all the community investment projects we support across Dorset, working with local community groups to support the great work they do and enabling us to hear the views and experiences of people we might otherwise not reach.

This year we’re supporting 14 projects which include accessible dance classes for people with Parkinsons disease, we’re working with Yewstock School in North Dorset to set up a radio club for children with learning disabilities to help give them a stronger voice. We’ve also teamed up with the Lighthouse in Poole to deliver dementia friendly film screenings.”
