As the nights begin to draw in, we too come back indoors from a Summer of outdoor “Unusual Dance in Unusual Places”to our familiar “Thursday Night is Dance Night” format of weekly dance and movement-based live performances. Our Autumn season will also offer a varied programme of shows for families & young people, art house films and ballet screenings.

We are once again Core Creative Partner for Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival (26 September to 12 October) and will be co-presenting The Roof from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 September at The Waterfront performance space.

The “Thursday Night is Dance Night” season will commence on Thursday 2 October at 7.30pm with a new interpretation of Vesalii Icones by Avant Garde Dance Company and Kokoro (BSO new music ensemble), an expressionistic and edgy piece that combines classical music & hip hop dance, with music by renowned composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. The season will continue with eight further Thursday Night is Dance Night performances, presenting styles from flamenco to ballet, contemporary and South Asian dance, and will be concluding with a Hatch & Scratch performance by four of our associate artists on Thursday 4 December.

The On Screen season will continue our“Monday Night is Film Night”art house and world cinema programme. As the new Bournemouth venue for Purbeck Film Festival, we will be screening four films during the festival period (10-25 October). We are also introducing “Edit Room”, a series of monthly events to complement our film programme with lectures, talks and classes, which is being sponsored by our creative agency, Revolting. We are further introducing a programme of family friendly films, and we have three ballet screenings too, including two streamed live from the Bolshoi Ballet.

The programme of live performances for Families & Young People includes an interactive performance of Once in a Blue Moon by Wriggle Dance Theatre on Sunday 28 September, Ballet Black’s enchanting adaption of Anna Kemp’s book Dogs Don’t Do Ballet on Sunday 19 October, and a magical re-telling of Hans-Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea by tutti frutti on Sunday 30 November.

The season further offers participation and development opportunities. PDSW and The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) host a three day conference including keynote addresses, panel discussions, papers and performances from 6-8 November. Moving in Circles returns once more in October for another two days of half-term fun. A free Coinvestment Day offers the opportunity to learn more about the innovative dance programmes for children and young people across the south West who have been supported by PDSW.
