Saxon Square Shopping Centre in Christchurch is searching for one deserving community group to follow in the footsteps of volunteer lifeguard charity, Christchurch Lifesaving Club, by picking up a £1,000 donation from the Centre, just in time for Christmas.
Christchurch Life Saving Club, whose members volunteer as lifeguards at many of Dorset’s popular beaches, was able to purchase £1,000 worth of essential lifesaving equipment thanks to last year’s donation.
Now, the Centre and its mix of 30 high street and independent stores is encouraging all types of groups from the Christchurch area to apply for its Christmas Wish donation campaign – from senior citizen clubs to youth groups, and sports teams to drama societies.
Whether entrants require new uniforms, improved facilities or equipment, or support for a special event, Saxon Square Shopping Centre is hoping to find a worthy group that will really benefit from its generous donation.
Simon Lancaster, Treasurer of 2013’s winning group, Christchurch Life Saving Club, said: “We are hugely grateful to Saxon Square Shopping Centre for helping us towards our ultimate aim as a club – enabling visitors to enjoy our beaches safely by providing highly trained lifeguards to the RNLI’s local lifeguard service.
“The equipment this competition enabled us to buy has been invaluable in helping us carry out the vital work we undertake training lifeguards for the RNLI at Friar’s Cliff & the local beaches at Christchurch.”
Bryan Taylor, Saxon Square Shopping Centre Manager, said: “Christchurch is such a tight knit community and this is our chance to give something back to the loyal customers who have supported the Centre throughout the year.
“We’re looking for a group or a team that is really passionate about what they do, and that helps to make a difference to the lives of its members. Plus, there’s no better time to celebrate community spirit than at Christmas, the season of goodwill!”
How to enter:
Groups can be nominated (or nominate themselves!) in one of two ways:
a) Nominate the group you feel most deserves this prize by filling in the form on our website by Friday 19 December.
b) Visit Saxon Square Shopping Centre on Saturday 6th December and enter with the Heart FM Angels on site for your chance to win £250 in shopping vouchers.
A representative from Saxon Square Shopping Centre will select the winner. The winning applicant will be contacted in December 2014.
