Labour leader Keir Starmer is trying to ban party members from seeing a film about his role in the Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.

The producer of the film, “Oh Jeremy Corbyn — The Big Lie”, Norman Thomas, claims that Starmer has gone to extraordinary lengths to try to stop people watching the film which portrays him acting like a devious “establishment spy cop” when Corbyn was leader.

Mr Thomas said. “Labour Party members have been threatened with punishment if they watch the film, Starmer-supporting Labour councillors have used their influence to stop the film being shown at venues including cinemas and community centres, and it’s even been banned from being screened at an annual festival for trade unionists.”

The TUC banned the film from the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival in Dorset this July  because they said they believed “showing this film would not uphold the TUC’s values nor contribute to the safety of staff, stewards and attendees.”

Mr Thomas said: “These were just ludicrous excuses. The real reason is that that the film tells a story that Keir Starmer wants no one to hear. But the more Starmer’s people try to ban it, the more people will want to see it.”

In Carlisle the screenings of the film has been cancelled in two different venues and organisers are now planning to screen it in a third venue this Saturday (May 13).

Mr Thomas said: “Starmer doesn’t want the film screened because it exposes the deceptive role he played inside the Labour Party when it was led by Jeremy Corbyn. Starmer conned the membership, sabotaged Labour’s electoral efforts in 2019 and helped bring Corbyn down —- all the time pretending to be something he wasn’t. The film shows that to all intents and purposes Starmer was an establishment spy cop.”

Narrated by veteran left wing comic Alexei Sayle, the film stars film-maker Ken Loach and ex-Labour MP Chris Williamson, and tells the story of the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn. Since being launched in London earlier this year, the film has been shown in over a hundred venues across the country.

Mr Thomas said: “And despite being boycotted by mainstream cinemas, the screenings are going on and on. The demand shows the strength of anti-Starmer forces both inside and outside the Labour Party. And, whatever spin he’s put on the recent local election results or opinion polls, Starmer must be deeply worried about that.”

Mr Thomas added: “These screenings demonstrate that the people who supported Jeremy Corbyn haven’t gone away, and now they’re planning a fightback. Starmer thought that by stopping Corbyn standing as a Labour MP he’d killed off Corbynism but the reception for this film for our film shows how wrong he was. In fact I think he’s helped to revive Corbynism.”

“Oh Jeremy Corbyn — The Big Lie” is produced by Platform Films, who have been making programmes about the labour movement for over 50 years. For information about latest screenings go to https://www.facebook.com/platformfilmsuk/ .
