Suella Braverman has departed Liz Truss’s government, the Home Office has confirmed.

She was only appointed as home secretary 43 days ago by Ms Truss.

A government source has stated that Ms Braverman’s departure is “not over a policy disagreement” but an “honest mistake”.

It follows the sacking of chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng last Friday and the axing of the majority of the government’s mini-budget on Monday by new Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

Ms Braverman was seen entering Number 10 at around 1pm this afternoon, leaving around half an hour later.

The Liberal Democrats described Ms Braverman’s exit as the latest in a “carousel of Conservative chaos”.
“This is a government in chaos. People should not be forced to watch the Conservative party implode day after day while real people suffer,”

Lib Dem home affairs spokesperson Alistair Carmichael said.
“There is a of cost of living catastrophe, health service crisis and now a rudderless Home Office.
“The only solution now is a general election so the public can get off this carousel of Conservative chaos.”

  1. It sounds to me as if Suella Braverman’s resignation from Liz Truss’s government was more a case of a rat deserting a sinking ship, rather than it being an honourable admittance to her seriously breaching security and subsequently “doing the right thing” by resigning. Moments later in the reading of her letter she initiates a tirade of criticisms against her former bosses ramshackle outfit – well, that’s pretty much the idea she gives the reader, although she doesn’t go quite that far with her actual criticisms..!

I think that the letter might have been written not long after Braverman realised that once Truss’s ship had sunk, a lifeboat would be along to pick up the surviving drowning rats in order to facilitate the creation of yet another unelected Tory government – and that she intended to be on that boat even if it meant selling her soul to the devil…a “devil” in the form of Rishi Sunak, or perhaps even Boris Johnson..! And so it was: Braverman’s allegiance went to Sunak probably quite gratefully, but on the premise that she be reappointed as Home Secretary – her most favourite of jobs…if she couldn’t yet become PM herself…
