The government hoped that they would lose fewer seats at the next general election if they could find ways to appeal to racists and the gullible. That may still be the case, as the racists and the gullible prefer fact free zones, so all the evidence presented so far would have been irrelevant to them.

And on top of this, according to the National Audit Office, the cost of the Bibby Stockholm and the RAF bases being used to house asylum seekers is almost £50 million more than when they were housed in hotels.
It appears that if one appeals to low intelligent racists, one can get away with anything.
