Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) and 13 other organisations in Dorset are pleased to announce that the popular ‘Wild About’ event is coming to Swanage on Saturday 21st June.

Wild About Swanage is a free event which welcomes all ages to come and celebrate everything that is wild in the Purbeck area, with wildlife games and activities for children, plant stalls, free refreshments and a raffle.

Back by popular demand this year, ‘Ecotainment’ with the ‘Tip of the pops wheelbarrow disco’ will be using solar power to play music from their mobile disco, which has been created from recycled and reused rubbish.  They will also be giving visitors a chance to sample food from their solar powered oven, which needs just 2-3 hours of sunshine to cook a pizza or heat some rice.

Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Community Conservation Officer, Briony Baxter, said: “Working alongside other organisations such as Butterfly Conservation, Wessex Water and The Forestry Commission, means we can offer a variety of fun activities for people of all ages to have a great day out.  Arts and crafts, learning about the Jurassic coastline through fossil rubbing and making a bug hotel are just some of the things children will be able to get involved with.  We will also be giving expert advice about how to make gardens and outside spaces more wildlife friendly.”

Other activities include: ‘Plant a munchbox’ for caterpillars to feast on, make a craft fish or model boat, go back in time on the Jurassic timeline, make music on the pedal powered beat machine, and face painting  and glitter stick-on tattoos.  DWT’s marine team will also be there to talk about their marine conservation work in Dorset and the Great Dorset Seafood project.

The event will take place on Saturday 21st June from 10am – 4pm in the Sandpit field (off Victoria Avenue) in Swanage, BH19 1AW.  For more information, phone 01305 264620 or visit www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/wild-about-swanage
