Dorset-based business leaders and young people will be coming together at Weymouth College this Friday for a one-of-a-kind networking and informational event, intended to provide businesses and students an insight into the benefits of providing and undertaking an Apprenticeship.

The Apprentice Fair is a joint collaboration between Weymouth College, the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce and Richard Drax MP and will take place on Friday 28 March 2014, beginning at 1.30 pm.

As part of the event Weymouth College will be welcoming more than 200 young people from schools across Dorset, who will be able to meet and talk with over 30 exhibitors from a range of industries and sectors, including Dorset-based armored vehicle specialists Ovik, luxury yacht manufacturers Sunseeker and the charity Action for Children. There are still places available for both exhibitors and young people be a part of proceedings.

Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, said:

“This is a rare chance for young people to meet a range of businesses that take on apprentices. In particular, I would urge those who are not sure of their career path to also attend as the fair may open doors that they may not have considered.”

Alongside exhibitors the Apprentice Fair will also feature an address by Lord Digby Jones, former Minister of State for Trade and Investment, who will be updating more than 100 local business leaders on the Government’s Apprenticeships scheme and providing more information on the business benefits of providing an Apprenticeship.

Julie Cleaver, President of Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, said:

“The Weymouth and Portland chamber of Commerce represents a wide variety of businesses many of which are attending the event as exhibitors. This is a great opportunity for young people to actively talk to businesses who may be able to give them work experience or an Apprenticeship. The Chamber is very keen to promote the developments of young people. For the first time ever, the Chamber has sponsored a Scholarship for a student at Budmouth.”
