Detectives investigating an alleged attempted robbery at a store in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 1.05pm on Saturday 24 July 2021 of a man who was reported to be in possession of a knife near to Broadwey Village Stores in Dorchester Road.

It was further reported that the man had entered the store in possession of the knife, threatened and assaulted the shopkeeper and made demands for money. The victim reportedly knocked the knife out of the man’s hand before he left the premises empty handed.

Officers attended and a 24-year-old man from Frome in Somerset was arrested nearby. He was subsequently charged with attempted robbery, criminal damage and possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and his first court appearance is due to take place at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 July 2021.

Detective Constable Claire Lloyd, of Weymouth CID, said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries into this incident and I am particularly keen to speak to any witnesses who have not already contacted police.

“I understand there was a white female, possibly a child, who was in store at the time and I would be keen to make contact with her as she may have information to assist our investigation.”
