Discover tales of daring do and smuggling at a night dedicated to all things piratical and run-fuelled!

Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum in Dorchester will be hosting a swashbuckling rum night on March 13th from 7pm. Master mixologists Lloyd Brown and David Smith from Dark Bear Co will be on hand to mix up some pirate cocktails and explain all about rum’s history and links to Dorset’s smuggling and piratical past.

Setting sail via the Caribbean, David will talk about the origins of rum and the triangular trade, as well as the beverage’s naval connections. Following a drink on arrival, those wishing to shiver their timbers at the event will also get two cocktails and two rum samples as well as a selection of nibbles.

Lloyd said: “We are thrilled to be coming back to Shire Hall, this time talking rum, there are so many links with smuggling and Dorchester’s historic courthouse museum!

“Cocktail wise we will be serving a ‘Ti Punch’, simple and beautiful but something a lot of people haven’t tried or think to order. The name means ‘small punch’ and was originally popular in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana.

“This will be followed by a Dark and Stormy, which links in with the Bermuda history and the town of St George’s being twinned with Lyme Regis. Lastly, we will be making something a bit more modern, with a Cafe Cubana, a rum based riff on the espresso Martini which is the perfect way to cap off the night!”

Tickets are selling fast and are £25 per person and available from the courthouse museum. (*Guests must be over 18.)
