Having recently been awarded gold status by the British Association of Road Races (BARR), the Fitness First Bournemouth Bay Run, in association with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), is back for another year – this time welcoming new technology that enables results to be sent to participants by SMS on the same day.

Set along a seven-mile stretch of golden sand and against the spectacular backdrop of the English Channel coastline, the Fitness First Bournemouth Bay Run takes place on Sunday 12 April 2015. All in aid of the BHF, raising vital funds for the fight against heart disease, runners can choose to enter the half marathon, 10k, 5k or 1k family fun run.

This year, for the first time, half marathon and 10k participants will be able to receive their results by SMS on race day, using a system linked to the timing chips which are given to each competitor.

Fitness First Marketing Manager, James Sheppard, said: “Fitness First is a long standing and proud supporter of the Bournemouth Bay Run. It’s a great event and the gold award is proof of its popularity among racers.

“We’re hoping that the new results technology will further enhance its appeal – taking the frustration out of waiting to find out where you’ve placed or if you’ve hit a PB!”

Also new for 2015, available to half marathon and 10k runners, is Pic2Go – an automatic photo-tagging system that works by recognising unique barcodes printed onto competitors’ race bibs and instantly sharing event photography on social media.

Entries are now open for this year’s run and runners can sign up at www.bhf.org.uk/bayrun. Entry includes an event t-shirt, goodie bag and medals for all finishers, as well as training guidance, help with fundraising and medical support.

Join our fight for every heartbeat in the UK. Every pound raised, minute of your time and donation to our shops will help make a difference to people’s lives

·         The annual Fitness First Bournemouth Bay Run has raised more than £251,294 from sponsorship alone since 2010, helping the British Heart Foundation to fund vital research in the fight against heart disease. The generosity of the public’s donations have already funded millions of pounds of research at Southampton University, including a major programme into understanding epigenetics – changes to your DNA as a result of lifestyle factors.  The work has shown that unhealthy lifestyle choices during pregnancy (e.g. smoking, high-fat diet) can have a permanent effect on a baby’s genes and increase its risk of heart disease, even long into adult life.
