A man has been jailed after five officers were subjected to unacceptable assaults by a man in Weymouth.
At around 7.55pm on Thursday 2 April 2026 officers responded to a call from the public about an aggressive man who was fighting with three men outside The William Henry in Frederick Place.
Officers attended and the defendant – 21-year-old Cade Robert David Adams of Bridport – tried to flee the scene.
Checks were carried out that showed Adams was in breach of a curfew that prevented him from being out after 7pm.
He was subsequently detained and arrested. During the arrest, Adams kicked an officer numerous times and struck them in the arm and torso.
The defendant proceeded to attempt to spit at officers and verbally abused a teenager who was standing in the vicinity.
During the journey into custody and while he was in a cell, Adams assaulted four more officers. He picked a mattress off the floor and threw it at an officer and also dug his nails into their arm and dragged his hand downwards causing a scratch.
Further investigative work revealed that Adams had stolen alcohol from Asda in the town earlier that day.
He pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, two counts of theft from a shop and five counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty.
Adams was sentenced at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 19 May 2026 to 11 months in prison.
Detective Sergeant Kim Williams, of Dorset County Volume Crime Team, said: “It is wholly unacceptable for officers to be assaulted while carrying out their frontline duties.
“We will do everything we can to make sure offenders such as Adams are held to account for their actions.”
