Bournemouth & Poole College is urging adults to seize the opportunity to achieve their career aspirations or to gain a further qualification in 2018 by attending its New Year, Fresh Start event on Thursday, January 11 from 3.30-6.30pm.

Representatives from a range of full-time and part-time courses starting in January 2018, including adult English and maths, as well as professional courses such as the new online and on-campus Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) programme, will be on hand to offer expert careers advice to attendees. There will also be opportunities to find out about apprenticeships with local businesses that are starting in early 2018.

Sally Mitchell, rents manager at DWP Housing Partnership in Bournemouth, studied on the CMI Management Level 3 Diploma course to gain further skills to implement into her role. Sally said: “I found the CMI Management Diploma course very informative. I regularly find myself using my new skills and the information I have learnt on a daily basis at work.

“In future I feel that I will be able manage my team much better and with more professionalism to ensure that they are able to build on their skills, knowledge and confidence when dealing with our tenants and their needs.”

Sharon Mackett, head of commercial delivery from The Bournemouth & Poole College, added: “The Chancellor’s budget acknowledged that adult learners need to be supported and encouraged to develop their skills by returning to education. A recent report from the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) also showed the positive impact that offering a person the chance to return to learning has, indicating that 57 per cent of adults surveyed now feel better equipped to find work and 82 per cent report improvements in mental health and wellbeing.

“At the College we pride ourselves on the fact that we offer opportunities for both school leavers and adult learners. We offer a variety of learning options for students to fit around their lifestyles. As well as full time and part time options, our new AATLevel 2 Certificate course even offers a combination of online and on-campus learning”.
