Prime Minister,
What is it about your Party that seems to have instilled into you the idea that denial somehow reverses actuality? Is there something in the water at CCO that the Chinese shareholders at Thames Water haven’t told you about?
The arrest of a senior government advisor for paedophilia-related offences that was hushed up until a national press outlet exposed it, for example. What were you expecting – Patrick Rock to still turn up for work the next morning simply because you chose to close your eyes to the security implications, never mind the political fall-out, of his arrest?
Now we see the issue of racism raising its head among the political classes. Your party has been… uh… blackening the reputation of immigrants for so long that a report showing your racist Home Secretary to have been completely wrong is now being hushed up. Really, Prime Minister, forget the deficit – you need to get to grips with the dual concept of honesty and accountability. If one of your Ministers – YOUR Ministers, Prime Minister – is proven to have acted illegally by misleading the general public, then YOU need to have the backbone to remove that Minister immediately.
Look at the DWP as another source of this fantasy living. Your Work and Pensions Secretary has been utterly determined to cover up what educated estimates now put at somewhere around 38,000 untimely and unnecessary deaths, due entirely to welfare reform, yet we hear nothing from your Office instructing him to release the actual figures in order for a full impact assessment to be carried out. That is not the action of a government that values democracy or accountability to the electorate; that is the kind of action that is normally attributed to one of the world’s less enlightened totalitarian regimes, such as Zimbabwe. Is it Psychosmiffy’s intention to redefine death, in the same way that he apparently intends to redefine child poverty?
Edwina Currie – she of diseased egg fame – has denied on nation-wide public service broadcasting television that food banks have increased in number because of an increase in poverty. This, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. David Freud has made the assertion that it “is hard” to understand why people use food banks. Tell me, do these people live in a world where there are little women with wings living at the bottom of their gardens, by any chance? Do they leave out saucers of milk and expect to find their shoes polished the following morning? I last tried that when I was seven years old, and realised the folly of it when I woke the following morning to find the milk gone and the dish full of hedgehog crap alongside a still-dirty pair of football boots.
Your contract killer, Atos, is changing its name to OH Assist, which is a nice anagram of “SO, AS SHIT.” Obviously the name was dreamed up by a traditionalist among their staff. Do they honestly believe that this re-branding will somehow wipe the slate of history clean for them, and automatically cause the public – the relatives and friends of people who have died because of Atos’ malfeasance – to simply wake up tomorrow and forget that they once had a husband/wife/child/best mate/neighbour who “failed” a WCA?
I mean, come on! The whole bloody country – even the Scum readers – roll about laughing at these kind of antics by people who are supposed to be mature and responsible enough to be entrusted with our well-being. One has to wonder if it’s your government’s intention to entirely discredit politicians and government agencies, to the point where we cease to tolerate any of you at all, ever again.
In the late nineteenth and early-to-mid twentieth centuries, up until – say – 1985 as a maximum, you’d have had a fair chance of getting away with your crimes against humanity and the whitewashes and lies. Since then, however, the widespread recording, sharing and archiving of information has become so commonplace that you are never going to be able to escape from the likelihood of someone popping up somewhere with a full denial of your assertions along with the ability to cite and produce concrete evidence to squash your fantastical lies as soon as you give vent to them.
You and your government appear to believe that you are able to become less accountable to the public as time goes along. I suggest you think again, Prime Minister, because we are watching and we are waiting, and we do not forgive and we do not forget. If you wish to be absolutely certain of one thing, it is that you can Expect Us.
