At midnight, the social media robot Mark Zuckerberg launched Threads, a new social media network tied to Instagram that hopes to compete with (destroy) Twitter. Threads has already pulled thousands of content creators, influencers, and celebrities to the app that many are calling the ‘Twitter-Killer’, with over 10 million signups in less than 7 hours.

What is Threads?

Threads (Zuckerberg) is the nemesis of Twitter (Musk) which the business has been believed to be developing for months. The Meta’s official description is as follows: “Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favourite creators and others who love the same things—or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions, and creativity with the world.”

What does Threads have to do with Instagram?

If you already have an Instagram account, you can join and sign in with that and immediately begin following everyone who uses Threads. Meta undoubtedly went this path in an effort to rapidly expand the app’s user base, reasoning that people who are already engaging with a user on Instagram will be interested in engaging with them on Threads as well.

Tweets are now “Threads”. Like Twitter, Threads features “threads.” Whenever you make a new post, you can refer to it as starting a new thread.

Does it look the same as Twitter?

In a word, yes! The Threads app is like Twitter in many ways. In other words, the thread post itself is displayed, followed by buttons to like, comment, and rethread (retweet). You may choose who can see the threads you create by adjusting the privacy settings.
