‘From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free’

This springs from the PLO, circa 1964, and encapsulates their (then) demand for a single, free, secular, democratic state, with equal rights for all citizens in the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

A very noble & perfectly reasonable aspiration. (Indeed, any Palestinians considering this actually overly generous, amounting, as it does, to sharing their land with their invaders & occupiers, would not be unreasonable).

As opposed to Likud’s hijacking of the term to mean, as per their first usage of it in their 1977 manifesto, “…. between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, there will only be Israeli sovereignty.” A clear statement of continuing illegal occupation & oppression.

‘Globalise the Intifada,’

This, based on the Arabic word ‘intifada,’ which translates literally as ‘shaking off’ one’s oppressors, is a call to oppose Israeli apartheid, oppression & genocide in whatever country one happens to be. Attempts to twist it into meaning, ‘Attack all Jews everywhere,’ are beneath contempt.

That’s it. Nothing ‘antisemitic’ or sinister or threatening towards Jewish people. I will continue to use these terms as I see fit and remain entirely unmoved by attempts to criminalise, or smear as ‘antisemitic’ their use in opposing Israeli occupation, oppression & genocide.

Thank you for attending my Ted Talk. There is no need for questions.
