Contemplative, striking and surprising new photography and journalism from homeless and marginalised Dorset creatives will be showcased in an exhibition at Poole Central Library on 25 June.

The budding writers and photographers from Poole and Bournemouth have been taking part in the Big Issue Online Journalism Programme, developing their portfolios with the support of professional photographers, journalists and editors.

The programme has been running in Dorset for the first time thanks to social enterprise communications agency Poached Creative and the Big Lottery Fund.

Trainees have covered the Bournemouth Wheels Festival, produced case studies on local community projects and created features and photo essays as part of the course. They have also gained industry insight from a selection of local guest speakers.

The exhibition is being run in collaboration with Poole Central Library, where the training has been taking place. Representatives from the creative industries, charities, social enterprises, local media and interested members of the public are all invited to attend.

Poached Creative director Jessica Smith said: “The trainees and the quality of their work have been so impressive that when Poole Library suggested hosting an exhibition we jumped at the chance.

“We’ve been running this programme in London for 18 months and it’s been fantastic to be able to offer this opportunity to people in Poole and Bournemouth. We hope you come along to see the work and meet some of the talented photographers and writers the programme has uncovered.”
