I got woken up this morning by a nightmare about Trump.

I had been addressing a sparsely attended climate emergency rally in Whitehall, when Donald Trump walked down the street.

I abandoned my speech and I went up to Trump and begged him with tears in my eyes to take action on the emergency.

He laughed cruelly in my face and said not only would he not take action on the crisis but that he would step up his actions to force the whole world to burn more fossil fuels.

That was when I woke up.

In the last few months, Trump has actually been taking steps to do this.

Following earlier actions taken by his administration to increase US coal burning, by seeking to give new tax-payer funded subsidies to the loss-making coal corporations, withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and trashing of Obama’s modest fossil-fuel transport efficiency regulations, Republicans are now proposing financial penalties for US states that refuse oil exploration licences for offshore drilling.

At the G7 summit, as well as refusing to attend the final leaders’ session discussing the climate emergency, the US told the G7 negotiators that they wanted their commitment to help Westernising countries to develop their fossil-fuel industries, to be included in the joint-statement.

With Rupert Murdoch’s and the Koch/oil industry’s anti-climate action agenda action now in full control of the Trump administration’s climate action policies, it is crucial that Murdoch’s Brexit coup does not throw the UK’s environmental and worker protections under the Trumpian bus.

With crucial votes taking place in the UK parliament over the next few weeks. It is essential that Jeremy Corbyn does not collude with Trump to destroy Britain’s sovereignty.

With the admitted Trumpian foreign trade policy now declared as being “America First, Bitch”, it is clear that Brexit would destroy the sovereignty the UK shares with its fellow EU liberal democracies.

Alone without our European partners, Trump would savage the UK, as he is already savaging the US’s closest partner – Canada, despite the US having a trade SURPLUS with Canada.

Trump’s US corporate donors and Murdoch’s all-powerful Fox News would demand an end to our UK climate regulations, worker protections, vehicle efficiency standards, environmental payments for wildlife protections, insist on GM crops polluting our countryside, destroy UK farmers by forcing Growth Hormone beef down our throats and insisting on replacement of the NHS with US for-profit health corporations.

It’s time for Corbyn & Labour to stop colluding with Trump, no matter how pure his reasons.

It’s time for Corbyn to back a democratic right for a #PeoplesVote.

It’s time for all of us to email our MPs to demand they block Theresa May’s attempts this week to destroy parliamentary sovereignty by removing parliament’s right to a meaningful vote at end of Brexit “negotiations”.
